Book and sketchpad tucked into her bag, Maggie opened her window to her room and crouched on the ledge for a moment. It felt odd to not checking in with someone before leaving but she was an adult now, she didn't want to talk to anyone at the moment. There were two people she wanted to talk to but Logan was gone and Jay had been unconscious for months. Maggie hadn't told anyone how worried she was, how scared, and how much it bothered her that she couldn't do anything.
She needed to get away, go somewhere that wasn't the school just for a little while.
Maggie pushed off the window leg and swept her wings down, taking flight into the cool night air. In the three years she'd had her powers Maggie had gotten where she was finally a decent flyer. Letting a bit of Harpy bleed over to blend with her made her a danger in the air as she picked up speed and height. The worries and fears that had been wearing at her dropped away as she soared. A joyful laugh bubbled up as Maggie let the walls she'd built around herself since her mutation emerged fell away as she danced across the sky.
This was freedom. This was why she didn't take the cure. Maggie soared where ever the wind took her, climbing and diving. She darted in and out of the patchy clouds until she was breathless and the simple joy of flight left her relaxed and happy as she spiraled down to a sparsely populated area not too terribly far from the school but it was still a pretty unfamiliar area for the winged woman.
Back winging, Maggie set down in the darkened space and wasted no time scarfing down a protein bar and bottle of water. Relaxed, she climbed onto the low branch of an old oak tree and perched there to read for a bit, Maggie wasn't ready to go back to the school just yet. Cracking open Green Rider, her night enhanced sight had no trouble reading in the near darkness.
